Indirect Rein - Neutral
The indirect rein is first used for control, to allow us to disengage the hindquarters.The indirect rein later allows us to flex the horse laterally at the poll.
To begin with ask your horse for neutral. Sit relaxed and ask the horse to flex around and smell your toe.
Click and release for any small flexion towards you.
Gradually ask for more flexion until the horse flexes all the way around to your toe. Then Click release, treat.
Increase the amount of time the horse stands flexed to earn a click, release,treat.
Start one rein halt transitions from a walk.
Flex to halt then click, release, treat.
Progress to yielding the hindquarters
Then move on to doing one rein halts from the trot.
Flex, Halt, Click, Release, Treat!
